Weight lifting and pilates

I am new to this and I want to learn to get started.
First, I am 60 years old and I want to lose My round stomach and build muscle. The problem is I only weigh 145 pounds and am five foot ten inches. If I lose weight I will lose it in the wrong places. currently, I am trying Pilates and weight lifting. I have 2 barbells that wiegh 15 pounds apiece. Any tips?

Hi Jowend,

You are doing the right stuff. Strength training will help you change your body composition. You will increase muscle, which is metabolically active, to help decease your bodyfat.

The average person after the age of 30 loses 5-7 pounds of muscle each decade (aging process). This is what has happened to you. The good news is you can help reverse this process by weight training.

Hi jowend,

After reading your post, you motivate me to work hard to get in shape. I am getting old also, and I used to do a lot of weight lifting back in the days. Then life got into the way and I stay away for a while. Now I have free time, I think I might want to try some pilates.
